Boy

In keeping with our mission to support and inspire creativity, we ask the artists we collaborate with to offer insight into their work, a look behind the scenes, and the opportunity for our readers to learn more about the process. For our latest fashion feature, photographer Pierre Crosby answers our questions.

What was the inspiration behind this shoot?

My inspiration was to create a dreamlike story with Kingsley, producing surreal and striking imagery that felt nocturnal and dreamy.

What was the first step of putting together the concept and idea for this shoot?
Aligning on a moodboard and thinking about the casting. Also, considering the location and what was realistic for the shoot.

What is your favorite image from this shoot and why?
Maybe the CFCL look. It really captures the feeling of the shoot with a striking visual that I don’t get tired of looking at.

How do you typically find inspiration for your work?
I find inspiration, of course, from other photographers past and present, but also in paintings, music, and travel—observing daily life to find small anecdotes which can spark or translate into an idea for a photo.

What do you do to overcome a creative block?
I love exercising, specifically running. It really clears my mind and re-centers me. I also love going to museums and galleries. It’s a common answer, but really, discovering something unexpected or unrelated can often inspire a new idea.

What is something you wish you had known when you were starting your career?
Rome wasn’t built in a day. It takes time to grow as a person and have that growth translate to maturity and cohesiveness in your style and work ethic. Shoot as much as you can and work hard consistently.
