Étoile du Nord

In the course of over a decade as the creative director for womenswear at Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière has continually pushed the house’s heritage into the future. For Fall 2025, inspired by the brand’s longstanding devotion to the art of travel, he took inspiration from the romance of bygone train transportation, showcasing a vibrant, graphic, and alluring collection on the soaring nineteenth-century façade of Paris’s Étoile du Nord, evoking the nostalgic romance of international journeys. A contemporary touch came from a collaboration with the seminal German electronic band Kraftwerk (whose pulsing, iconic 1977 album Trans-Europe Express took inspiration from the titular train), with starkly abstract designs adorning several of the looks. The collection was propulsive and romantic all at once, a vision moving purposefully forward while staying intimately connected with the past.
