A bag from MM6's upcycled patchwork capsule collection

MM6's Patchwork Pieces

As conscious consumers continue to search for more responsibly made fashion, upcycled designs unsurprisingly continue to surge in popularity. In fact, Lyst reports that searches for “upcycled fashion” grew by forty-two percent in just three months last year, while “upcycled” has now been tagged on over 2.3 million posts on Instagram alone. So it’s perfect timing for MM6 Maison Margiela to present its unique edit of patchworked accessories, from the label’s iconic Japanese tote bag to its curving 6 boots, as well as sandals, slides, and open-toed mules. Imagined during lockdown, the capsule is crafted from cuttings of surplus material, including buttery leathers and suedes, from past collections that would otherwise have gone to waste. Carefully preserved and trimmed, the castoffs have been artfully reworked to create “new” limited-edition versions of house hits in soothing hues of alabaster, chestnut, white, and gray.

The MM6 upcycled patchwork capsule collection is now available at MM6 stores worldwide and MaisonMargiela.com. Read this story and many more in print by ordering our inaugural issue here.
