Reykjavik Edition

The Edition Comes to the Land of Fire and Ice

Once mainly a stopover for travelers in transit between America and Europe, Iceland is now home to a new urban sanctuary thanks to the Reykjavik Edition, which opened its doors in November. Shaped by the ever-luxurious hand of Ian Schrager, known for inventing the boutique hotel, the Reykjavik Edition was made for city explorers: those who crave comfort wrapped up in the excitement of going out.

The Edition's 253 rooms are flooded with warmth, each featuring hand-selected ash wood and oak framing, custom Italian-made plush furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Overlooking vast mountains and oceanscapes, the Edition's restaurant, Tides, helmed by chef Gunnar Karl Gíslason, serves modern Icelandic cuisine, while guests are invited to consider the spirit of Iceland with signature drinks at the lounge bar, Tölt. The Edition's renowned innovation in hospitality extends to the spa, where guests can unwind in a geothermal water splash pool along with treatments including a cool onyx scalp massage.

In true Edition style, the bottom floor houses the hotel's nightclub, Sunset, which, between its perfectly curated cocktail menu and a lineup of events, will no doubt become an institution in Reykjavik's thriving nightlife scene. "It would have been a dream to have opened Studio 54 here, where darkness lasts six months rather than the eight hours as it does in New York City," says Schrager. "It would have been the perfect place for it."

Between its unmatched design, crafted menus and experiences, and Schrager's reputation for transforming immaculate hospitality into a medium to experience culture, the Reykjavik Edition offers a welcoming retreat, a breath of luxury for adventurers amid the vastness of the country’s frigid brilliance.
