Over the course of a decades-long career, the choreographer Pina Bausch became a living legend in her field, an artist who helped shape the course of modern dance in the second half of the twentieth century. Her expressive and stylized creations brought her such worldwide acclaim that it felt only natural that she would come to lead her own company, Tanztheater Wuppertal, in her native Germany, serving as its artistic leader until her death in 2009. In the years since, her legacy has continued, as new generations of dancers embody her striking pieces, bringing her unique vision around the world. Photographer Lara Angelil and stylist Marzia Fossati captured three of the company's performers, Lucieny Kaabral, Christopher Tandy, and Tsai-Wei Tien, for our latest issue, bringing a heightened sense of artistry to their movement. In an accompanying video directed by Joel Kerr, the three speak about living through Bausch's dance style and renewing her remarkable creativity for decades more to come.
